Nobody thinks infrastructure is sexy
Neither do I. It's still where AI actually runs.
Nobody thinks the infrastructure is the sexy part of AI.
Honestly? Not in the way the hype means it. Neither do I.
Someone held up a rack photo the other night, all that neat, dressed cabling, and called it "cabling porn." A few of us grinned.
That grin is the tell. The people who recognise a world-class install know what the hype crowd doesn't: clean power, disciplined cabling, patching you can read, equipment installed properly. That's the goal, and it's genuinely craft. It also pays for itself for years, because infrastructure done right is infrastructure you can actually run, support and trust.
When people talk about AI they mean the models, the demos, the magic. Nobody's marketing the power feeds, the cooling loops, the commissioning runs.
Some of you will think: mate, you're stating the obvious. Fair enough. Others might sit with it a second, because the unglamorous part is what decides whether any of the magic turns on, and keeps turning on.
The sexy part gets the headlines. The well-built part gets it running.
That's the end I've spent my career on. Done right, it's a thing of craft.
Written from inside the work. The take is mine; the agent gathers, I judge.
