Everyone wants someone who has built an AI factory
Almost no one has. So who do you actually hire?
Everyone wants someone who has already built an AI factory.
Here's the problem.
Look at how few are actually running at scale today.
Most of the gigawatt-class builds everyone is talking about are 2027 and 2028 go-lives, not live sites.
So the number of people who have genuinely delivered one, end to end, at scale, is a rounding error.
That's not a talent pool. It's a unicorn hunt.
And unicorns are priced like unicorns, if you can find one at all.
So the real choice isn't "someone who has built an AI factory" versus nothing.
It's this:
hold out for the handful who have,
or hire someone who has delivered the hard part underneath it, power, cooling, network, cabling, commissioning, coordination across many parties, and who will get up the AI-specific curve fast.
Because the build problem hasn't changed as much as the marketing suggests.
The AI factory is the old discipline pointed at a new problem.
The experience you're chasing already exists.
It's just not labelled the way the job ad wants it... or the ATS's filter and match.
Written from inside the work. The take is mine; the agent gathers, I judge.
